Hey friends! It's my pleasure today to chat up this SUPER fun fabric by Rae Hoekstra for Cloud 9 Fabrics called Sidewalk.
I chose (or shall I be really honest and admit Ruby, my 7 year old Scientist chose) Bug's Life in organic interlock knit. We settled on new pajamas since she's grown about 3" this year.
Interlock knit is easy to sew with, and Cloud9 knit has a great feel to it. It's stable enough to be problem-free with sewing machine plates (not fiddly), and soft enough that a picky child is happy to stay in it for days.
**If you're new to sewing with knits I highly rec Meg McElwee's class on Craftsy, which I reviewed here for Sew Sweetness. It's probably one of the best investments I ever made for improving my sewing game.
There are so many great prints to choose from. I want to get my mits on those buses ASAP. Oh, and the flamingos. And the slippers.
and and...
As you can see, she insisted no scrap went to waste. Hippie style headbands are the rage you know.
Practicing for Broadway.
Think these knits are only for kids? Think again! Check out Rae's page for inspiration on making adult clothing. I adore her clothing patterns so much. You could easily whip up an Isla in an hour or two with one of these knits. Think how Floridian the flamingo print would feel! I'm warmer already.
These pics are from Rae's Blog here.
HOT right?!
I KNOW.
I make things a couple sizes too big usually, because I want it to last. You can make this pj set by using Rae's Flashback Skinny Tee sewing pattern. The leggings I drafted from a pair we have, but there are loads of free tutorials online, like this one.
Cloud 9 Sidewalk
Recap:
1. Cloud 9 organic interlock is shipping now.
2. Get confidant with sewing knits with Meg's help. It's worth it.
3. Sewing for yourself or your kids (or neighbor's kids, or the neighborhood Lion's Club, or the bowling league, or your sister in law friend's nephew.... you know what I'm sayin..) it's IN STYLE. DIY is haute. I find the Isla sewing pattern (see photo below) really easy and quick.
Ok get on it.
HAPPY SEWING!

ReplyDeleteOh, and I think I am ready to try knits after seeing this!
ReplyDeleteNice post. I learn something more challenging on different blogs every day. It will always be stimulating to read content from other writers and practice a little something from their store. I’d prefer to use some with the content on my blog whether you don’t mind. Naturally I’ll give you a link on your web blog. Thanks for sharing.
