easy homemade bread sticks recipe

Fluffy, light, yumminess.

I love bread sticks, and this homemade recipe is so delicious. They crunch in all the right places, yet are soft and fluffy on the inside. Mmmmmmmm!

Make these once and you'll have requests for more.

Breadstick Recipe:

1 envelope active dry yeast
1.5 cups warm water (about 110 F or 43 C)
2 tbsp olive oil
1/2 cup semolina flour*
3-4 cups reg flour (unbleached/plain all purpose)
1 tbs salt

*This can be found with the specialty flours, right next to the gluten free, etc...If you cannot find it at all, just use regular flour. I did the first time and there was only a slight difference, still very delish.

In a bowl with a mixer and dough hook, sprinkle the yeast over the warm water and let it bubble for a few minutes. Add the olive oil, semolina flour, and salt and mix until combined.  Add the all purpose flour 1/2 cup at a time, and mix with the dough hook until smooth. (Not sticky-this took my Kitchen Aid mixure about 8 minutes.)

Form the dough into a ball and place it in a slightly oiled bowl, covered with a kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm (draft free) place for about an hour. It should nearly double in size. Preheat the oven to 425 F (230C)

Sprinkle your work area with some flour and get ready to form the breadsticks. Split the dough ball into 8-10 smaller balls, then flatten them out like a worm shape. (My toddlers loved helping me here.) Place them on a lightly floured baking tray and bake for roughly 10 minutes, or until golden.

Test your will power by not eating them all at once (like I did.) heeeheee

Garlic Balsamic Dipping Sauce:

balsamic vinegar 1 cup
chopped fresh garlic 2 bulbs
(You could roast it if you like, I simple love raw garlic, and it's so healthy too.)
healthy dose of extra virgin olive oil (I used 1/3 cup)
sprinkle of salt and sugar

Share with hungry friends.
Make some more.
Wholesome goodness.

  1. Yum! I wouldn't have thought of using a dipping sauce, but that sounds really good!
