I took the girls on a trip to Dover to visit the largest castle in England. It was fantastic, despite the downpour of rain. Especially wonderful was the reference to King Henry II, which the book The Pillars of the Earth is based on. I was transformed into the book whilst walking through the Keep (the main living quarters of nobles and gentry), the tunnels, and the church. I often find myself daydreaming of
living so long ago in this beautiful country. I can't help it, the church in my village- only few yards away from my home- was built in the 12th century...it's just astonishing and wonderful. I feel so grateful to have this experience. I adore Britain and her people.
Enough of my blabbering.
This picture is from Wikipedia, read all about the Castle on this link.
If you fancy history, you might like this link for a quick run down of the Kings & Queens of England.
(The Normans, The Plantagenets, the House of Lancaster, the House of York, the Tudors, the Stuarts, the House of Hanovarians, the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, and finally, the Windsors.)
I find it devastatingly romantic.
Lovely pics, they're so atmospheric, sounds like you had a lovely day! I think we (in Europpe) sometimes take our old buildings for granted - so its lovely to see them through fresh eyes!
