IRIS Messenger Bag sewing pattern coming soon

There's a new pattern on the horizon currently in testing. It's a messenger style bag with lots of features including two zipper security pockets, two slip in pockets, an adjustable strap, and LOTS of room.

I actually scaled it down in size- you should've seen my original bag design! LOL  I think I could have fit a small person in there.

There will be a PDF at the start with tons of full color photos and digital illustrations, like all my patterns. I take a lot of time to make these so that anyone can pick it up and be successful.

I played around with placement of zipper pockets a million times to find what worked for me. I road tested it for weeks. I then coaxed the kiddos to help me take some photos--which turned out to be a full on bribery contest. "If you hold that flap up one more time...I'll give you an extra 30 minutes on Minecraft tonight!"  I mean, whatever works you know?

I made one in Jennifer Paganelli Hotel Fredericksted as well--which I LOVE!

I get my JP fix at hawthorne threads.

ALLLLL of JP fabric is my boyfriend. No jokerella, I have loved her fabric ever since I started sewing. I have a dress almost done in the orange colorway of this print. YES Ma'm I will be wearing orange this summer- no fear.

It's so 70's and Hippie Happy to me!

Here is evidence I also bribed the youngest child. Well done Ruby! Check out that concentration.

There is a recessed zipper closure on this bag, secret security pocket in the flap, and you can use fusible fleece or batting for the interfacing so it's kinda squishy.

I'll be walking you through every step.

This week Stephanie  of Modern Sewsciety and I had a chat on her wonderful Podcast. You can have a listen here if you like, or browse her MANY MANY interviews of people I bet you know.

She runs a group Modern Sewcialites here you can join for lots of useful information. I love having her newsletter arrive in my email- there is always something I enjoy reading and/or learning.

I just bought this digital issue of Modblock Magazine by Missouri Star and I'm so excited to try out Annabel's Doodle quilt project. She's enamored me since she started making these mini quilts and I can't wait to give it a go!

You can see more of her stunning work here.

I'm teaching a leggings class at Blue Bar Quilts this month- April 21. It's going to be super fun- we're using the great pattern by 100 Acts of Sewing. I've road tested it and it WERKS. Sign up!

I tested the Arenite Pants pattern by Meg at Sew Liberated. YOU WILL WANT THIS pattern.  I've worn mine three times already (in two weeks) and I NEVER repeat that often. They are comfy but look stylish- which is a super difficult thing to pull off.  They do take some time with the seams but it's worth it. I have another pair ready to sew in tencel rayon. The pair above is silk noil, which feels like a slubbed cotton. It's incredible. I found mine at Stone Mountain Daughter online- a fabric shop in Berkeley, CA.

Every time I say "California" in my head I sing Snoop Dog music. Every. Single. Time.

  2. I am enjoying your blog and IG. I listened to you on Stephanie's podcast and have a lot in common as well. I see in this post that you bought the Mod Block with Annabel's pattern. I've wanted to try her work and this is the first place I've seen a pattern. I looked on the MSQC site and see the book but they do not show any pictures of the table of contents. I am wondering if the book looks good to you, beyond Annabel's pattern? Just curious ;-)

  4. New fashion in the world of bags are undoubtedly messenger bags. When it come sewing them yourself they can come in great variety of colors and styles and it can be a nightmare to choose a perfect bag for yourself. Child Actor LA
